Road safety
Parents of Oasis Academy Ryelands children have spoken out as councillors decide on the future of their low traffic neighbourhood.
Karina, David and Stoyanka said that the Albert Road healthy streets scheme or LTN had made it safer and easier to walk with their children to school.
Before the scheme, they had to run between gaps in the traffic to cross over with their children, said Karina. Now, David felt able to even allow the children to use a scooter or bicycle.
The councillors on Croydon Council’s Traffic Management Advisory Committee are considering a recommendation to keep healthy streets schemes in Albert Road, Holmesdale Road, Parson’s Mead and in Woodside/Addiscombe.
The schemes:
- reduce traffic danger
- lead to increases in physical activity and mental wellbeing
- cut carbon emissions.
They achieve this while maintaining access by car for everyone.
