On 28 September 2022, the Department for Transport carried out a Minor roads traffic estimate review. Low Traffic Neighbourhood enemies claim this means we don’t need LTNs. We will leave Jon Burke FRSA to explain (16 reasons) why this is untrue.

This website has always sought to provide the best source of reliable information about the need for a reduction in motorised transport in cities, so we will be updating our Traffic page with these new statistics.
However, it is worth pointing out that increases in traffic on residential roads were not the primary reason for wanting a drastic reduction in traffic. These primary reasons are:
- Climate change
- Pollution
- Health
- Safety
- A pleasant environment

Nevertheless, it is worth pointing out that the level of traffic throughout Great Britain increased between 1993 and 2019. Traffic increased by 16% on minor roads in London. Surely we should be drastically reducing traffic, not increasing it.
Background
Air quality: Road vehicles are the single biggest cause of London’s air pollution.
Health: Croydon has more air pollution deaths than any other London boroughs, data from Clean Air in London shows
Safety: absolute numbers of injuries inside LTNs halved relative to the rest of London 2018-2020
